Arefco Participates in NCEA World of Work Day
Arefco Supports Local Careers Fayre
NCEA World of Work Day
The local Northumberland Church of England Academy hosted a World of Work day on Thursday 6th March 2014 and Arefco were invited to attend by Mark Fox, the Careers Advisor at the Josephine Butler Campus. The Arefco team representing us on the day were:
* Dee Love, HR Manager
* Luke McGruddy, Design Engineering Manager
* Ryan Stanners, Trainee Design Engineer (formerly, Design Apprentice)
The aims of the day were to give learners an insight into current and emerging occupational areas and to link progression pathways and careers with NCEA subject areas. The target groups were years 9 -13 and the intention was to show the students the qualities and skills required by employers in the 21st century and to give them an understanding of the local, regional and national labour market.
Arefco’s plan was to concentrate on the company’s design capabilities by demonstrating how and why we use CAD and SolidWorks. We also took along a presentation so that the students could understand what we manufacture.
Ryan did an excellent job of explaining to them how he got his apprenticeship, what his job entails, the training he has completed and what courses he is currently involved in. I am sure they left our stand more convinced that opportunities for apprenticeships do exist.
Luke took on the more serious role of explaining SolidWorks and there was a lot of interest from both students and other employers.
Our stand attracted a fair amount of attention and we received very positive feedback. Other local employers commented that they wished they had brought their apprentices along. Hopefully, we have helped to inspire another generation of engineers!
